  • Scientists Predict an Increase of Species Extinction Scientists have calculated how many mammals might be lost this century. They predict that at least 550 species will become extinct like the mammoth and saber-toothed cat. In 2019, an international team of scientists said one million animal and plant species were under threat of extinction. Tobias Andermann from the University of Gothenburg says that with every lost species, we lose a unique portion of Earth's natural history. Computer tests predict increases in extinction rates by the year 2100. Species that have already become extinct are only a small portion compared to future extinctions. New research suggests that humans are almost entirely responsible for the extinction of mammals. However, Andermann says humans could save lots of species with more protection efforts. Andermann says that everyone must increase their awareness about the crisis, and "we must take action to fight this global emergency."

  • Yes, because human activities have a big effect on nature destroying nature and animals. We can assist the environment with science. However, we are more intent on destroying than protecting. (edited)

  • No, I don't think that we will really lose at least 550 species within the century because technology is making it easier to monitor a specific species. For example, electronic tags help scientists track the migration of species to help understand and protect them.
